Community Champion Volunteers needed
Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) is looking for volunteers who can raise awareness of Home Fire Safety Visits (HFSVs). Community Champion Volunteers will be asked to spend around eight hours a month talking to local groups about the benefits of a HFSV and encouraging people to sign up.
Referrals will be passed to AF&RS and firefighters will visit the homes to discuss fire safety issues specific to the property and fit free smoke alarms where required. Community Champion Volunteers will be providing a valuable service to local people by helping to increase fire safety awareness and prevent accidental fires.
AF&RS Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Mick Dixon, said: “We are keen to spread the fire safety message across our local communities and have developed the Community Champion Volunteer scheme as a way to ensure we can reach those most in need. Community Champion volunteers have an important role to play in preventing fires and potentially saving lives.”
No qualifications or previous experience is needed and full training and support will be given to all volunteers. Community Champion volunteers will gain new skills, meet a wide range of people and make a positive contribution to people’s safety. This scheme also provides an opportunity for existing Community Resilience North Somerset Volunteers to help reduce risk in their community in partnership with AF&RS. Any interested volunteers, especially those in the Safety Team should email or tel 01934 426322 in the first instance.
